Major Derek Rondeau is a native of Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. He was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 2009 following graduation from Norwich Military Academy. He also attended the French National Military Academy- Saint Cyr. His first active-duty assignment was as an Assault Platoon Leader (Heavy Weapons) with D Company, 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York from 2010 to 2013. While serving at Fort Drum, Major Rondeau deployed to Regional Command – South, Afghanistan as both a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer.  

Following graduation from the Maneuver Captains Career Course, MAJ Rondeau served as a Leader Development Staff Officer and Executive Officer (XO) to Brigadier General Gabram, TRADOC G-3, Fort Eustis, Virginia. Following that assignment, he served as a Division Battle Captain for 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, KS forwarded deployed to Kuwait. He first commanded Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team (ABCT), deploying to Camp Casey, Korea from 2016 to 2017. After returning from Korea, he took command of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry Battalion from 2017 to 2018 serving as III Corps Mechanized Immediate Response Company (IRC) assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division (Light Infantry) for six months. MAJ Rondeau’s final command was as the Battalion Rear-Detachment Commander during the battalion’s deployment to Romina.

After completing Command and General Staff College, MAJ Rondeau served as the Executive Officer (XO) for 2nd Battalion, 54th Infantry Regiment,198th Infantry Brigade, Fort Moore Georgia. MAJ Rondeau recently completed a one year deployment to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia where he served as the Infantry and Special Forces Advisor to Royal Saudi Land Forces (RSLF). MAJ Rondeau is currently assigned as an Assistant Professor of Military Science (APMS) and Executive Officer (XO) for the Mountain Ranger Battalion at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) and Colorado State University, Pueblo (CSU-P).

MAJ Rondeau’s military training and education include the Basic Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, Mechanized Leaders Course, Sniper Employment Course, Defense Support to Civil Authorities Course, Common Faculty Instructor Course, Infantry Officers Basic Course, Maneuver Captains Career Course, and Army Command and General Staff College. He holds a Master of Military Arts and Sciences degree from Command and General Staff College and a Master of Arts degree in Justice Studies with a concertation in Counterterrorism from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Army Commendation Medal (3rd Award), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Combat Infantrymen’s Badge, Expert Infantrymen’s Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency, Silver, and recipient of the Order of Saint Maurice – Legionnaire and the King Abdulaziz Order of Merit - Bronze.

Major Rondeau is married to Stephanie Rondeau of Franklin, New Hampshire. Stephanie has a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Exercise Science and Kinesiology from the University of New England and is working as physical therapist. They have three daughters, Olivia (eleven years old), Emma (nine years old), and Audrey (seven years old).
